Potter Gray elementary has been
using a modified calendar in the Bowling Green City Schools
District since 1998 and has been a named a Pace Setter school in
Kentucky since the inception of that statewide assessment
program.
Since moving to a new calendar its
Academic Index has risen from 87.2 in 1999 to 96.2 in 2005, with
each year showing an increase.
Over the past three years the
calendar has allowed Potter Gray to incorporate several new
programs designed to enhancer the educational process at its
school. The programs include a string Instrument program for 4th
and 5th graders allowing the students the opportunity
to play such instruments as the violin, viola, cello and base
and a Math Blast program which focuses on three quick recall of
basic math facts for each grade level.
Potter Gray uses intersession during
the fall ands spring with a schedule that allows for remediation
time from 8 am to 11 am and enrichment time from noon to 3 pm.
During the regular school year there is an after school tutoring
program two days per week. In the spring the school offers a 5th
grader the opportunity to travel to Huntsville, AL for a week of
Space Camp.
In addition to being a Pace Setter
School, Potter Gray has been named a Welcoming School by the
Pritchard Committee and its Academic Team has won
the District Governor’s Cup each of
the last ten years.
